The Clan MacBean Memorial park was purchased and built
by Huston McBain of McBain, in 1961, after he became the first chief
of our clan in over 200 years (
Read An American Scottish Chief by McBain
). Since these lands had been lost to the family, he tried to purchase some
of it back. After a very difficult time of convincing the present owner
that he meant only good to come of the purchase, a small amount of land was
sold to him. This park is located on the Darris road, off
the B862., one mile east of Dores (Due-ers), and has a magnificent view of
Loch Ness.
A cairn was built with the inscription of
all of the
Clan MacBean Chief 's names placed on it,
up through Huston McBain of McBain.
The Cairne had two beautiful cast-iron Highland
Wild Cats, one
placed on each end of it.
These cats were subsquently stolen
from the Cairn and police have not been
able to locate them or their thief.
